The Gregory V. Monroe Athletic Complex is a state-of-the-art facility that houses a first-rate weight and fitness room.
West Virginia State University offers various housing options for students including two residence halls and on-campus apartments.
THE JUDGE DAMON J. KEITH SCHOLARS HALL
Features:
204 total beds (due to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines)
78 suite-style units – two, three and four-bedroom plans
9 fully-furnished apartment-style units with rental rates inclusive of electricity, water/sewer, trash service, cable and Internet service. With the exception of two of the apartments, each apartment houses two students, in which each student has their own room and bathroom.

West Virginia State graduate Katherine Johnson has received many accolades for her pioneering work at NASA, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 — the highest award that can be bestowed on a civilian. In bestowing the award, President Barack Obama called Johnson, “a pioneer in American space history,” whose mathematical calculations “influenced every major space program from Mercury through the Shuttle program.” Johnson's remarkable story is also told in the book and major motion picture "Hidden Figures," released nationwide in January 2016.
West Virginia State is an NCAA Division 11 school and a member of the Mountain East Athletics Conference.

Earl Francis Lloyd was an American professional basketball player and coach. He was the first African American player to have played a game in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
An All–American player at West Virginia State University, Lloyd helped lead West Virginia State to an undefeated season in 1948. As a professional, Lloyd helped lead the Syracuse Nationals to the 1955 NBA Championship. Lloyd was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
